But for two votes!

Our faith remains in the dark ages!
I am so disappointed.
I have written The Anglican Church Of Canada at several levels to express my disapproval. Not that it will make a difference but it certainly makes me feel better

"-- The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada has narrowly defeated a resolution that would have allowed dioceses to decide for themselves whether or not to bless same-sex unions.

Lay delegates voted 78 to 59 in favor of the motion and clergy voted 63 to 53 in favor But the House of Bishops voted 21-19 against it. As a result the motion was defeated, since it required approval by each of the three orders to pass."

I was taught that faith is a very personal thing, and yet a group of religious leaders have over-ruled the laypeople and community leaders to tell people what they can and cannot believe.

There are those who say that homosexuality is a sin and that God spoke against it in the Bible. Well, He spoke against a lot of things, including eating pork and having your washroom facilities within so many meters of your house. Usually careful study reveals that each is a mandate to improve health and safety. Homosexuality did not make the Top Ten, however. Given that adultery, murder, and honoring parents did, I'm guessing there are higher priorities. The Bible DOES support slavery and the beating of family members, two practices which we no longer support. If we ban homosexuality based on biblical text, should we not bring back those other traditions?

I'm a psychologist with training in the neurological basis of behaviour that knows that many species, including humans, have homosexual tendencies, and that for most people it's the way they are wired. I don't know if homosexuality is a “sin” or not. Personally, I don't care. I'm more concerned about the church's lack of an active stance against spousal/ child abuse, the sexual exploitation of children, the too-frequent tendency to care only for the needs of the members within the church and ignore "outsiders" falling through the cracks in shoddy government support systems. We hear sermons against homosexuality far more frequently than we hear sermons addressing those "other" issues... if we hear about those other issues at all. I've never heard an alter call for people to open their homes to foster children, to volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, to adopt children from impoverished countries. I don’t care what people do in their bedrooms; I want to know what they do with the rest of their time, whom they are helping, and whom they are hurting.

And I may be risking eternal damnation here, but I'm betting that's what God cares about too. It's certainly what matters in Pastafarianism, and I'd hate to think that a parody religion does more good than a "real" one!

Why would anyone involve themselves with a church that out-rules against thier own beliefs? WHy would anyone believe a book published by Man and not by God. Just boggles my mind.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Whatever floats your boat.
That church/faith would sink my soap, much less my boat.
