It may not seem like much but it's a start...and a huge start at that!

"...Ireland as the IRA called on all its members to stand down their arms at 4 o'clock local time and to pursue their goals by peaceful means."

I remain Proud of my Irish background, cautiously optimistic and very hopeful.

You see? I am not the only one!

Wow bb...optimism!?
I never expected that from you. I'm very proud of and hopeful for you as well.

My grandmother's (now 90 and in a residence) family is from there. My gr.Grandfather (her dad) was Henry Riddle and was one of the engineers brought over to work on the Welland Canal lock system. I apparently have dozens of cousins etc...there. He was from Belfast.

I too have roots in Ireland.
My Great Grandmother and her family came here long ago.
I have been getting info from some family and other sources trying to piece it all together. Not sure yet where they were from exactly but one of these days I will complete the puzzle. Good post Rue and thanks for the visit.

My name is Stanley Yew but my grandpappy was a MacGillivary from Ireland and I'm more than happy to hear the good news. Unfortunately, I'm not what you'd call a happy-go-lucky-guy like my pappy, and I tend to be a bit rude and obnoxious at times; well pretty much all the time. But there's one thing I love deeply and strongly, and that's Ireland, and when I shake off this rage and depression, I'm headed across the seas.

Thanks for the post, Rue.
